Authorities in Michigan are conducting an investigation into the theft of late singer Aretha Franklin’s assets shortly before her death.

TMZ reports the criminal probe involves someone inappropriately using her funds. The report was filed in June 2018, just one month before she died. It’s unclear exactly how much money has gone missing.

In better news for fans of the icon, her biopic, RESPECT, has just locked down its director. MGM Studios has chosen Tony nominee Liesl Tommy to direct. The film will cover the life of the late artist, from singing as a child in her father’s church’s choir to becoming a superstar and civil rights activist. Before she passed, Franklin handpicked Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson to portray her in the film.
