Early Monday morning, BET anchor TJ Holmes was pulled over by police and documented the entire event via Twitter. In real-time, Holmes posted a photo of the cop car that was the source of his angst, with the caption "Driving while Black ain't no joke!" The former CNN anchor explained that he was only a mile away from his house, and there were two cop cars behind him. While being questioned by the police, Holmes sent out two tweets claiming the police officer was unable to adequately explain why he was pulled over.

The reason the cop stopped Holmes? He wanted to make sure Holmes had "insurance on the car." Ten minutes later, Holmes explained that he "managed to avoid jail time," but admitted that his relationship with the local police may have been "soured" by the experience, adding the hashtag #showmeyourpapers. Holmes ended his soliloquy by revisiting his earlier point about "driving while Black."
