The body of a young girl found inside a duffle bag on a Hacienda Heights hiking trail in Los Angeles County was identified Sunday as 9-year-old Trinity Love Jones.

“Due to the overwhelming response from the news media and tips received from the public, investigators have identified the deceased child,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau Deputy Tracey Koerner said in a written statement.

Authorities announced two persons of interest were apprehended in connection to the child’s death. “Investigators have detained two persons of interests in this case and they are actively continuing their investigation,” Koerner added.

Specific details about Trinity’s death have yet to be shared with the public.

“Although the Coroner’s Office determined the death to be a homicide, the cause of death is being withheld,” the statement continued. “As additional facts are established and verified, investigators anticipate that additional information will be available for release during a press conference later in the week.”

The Los Angeles Police Department did not confirm the identities of the detainees, but Trinity’s family told KTLA her mother, Taquesta Graham, and Graham’s boyfriend, Emiel Hunt, were each being held by police on $2 million bond in connection to the investigation.

According to the outlet, jail records show Hunt is being held in police custody on a felony charge that is not listed. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday.

Antonio Jones, Trinity’s father, told KTLA he was informed of her death through a phone call. “Words can’t explain what I’m feeling right now. I just want answers. I just want justice,” he said.

Reminiscing on his youngest daughter’s personality, her dad said, “She was just the best. Full of character, full of life, full of joy.”

Other family members questioned why Trinity was in the custody of her mother, who allegedly is a registered sex offender.

“It’s more than just the mother and the boyfriend. We have to get to the bottom of it. We need justice. We need to figure it out. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this to no one. Everybody deserves an answer,” a family member said.

County workers discovered Trinity’s body while performing maintenance on an equestrian walkway last week. Shortly afterward, investigators hosted a press conference calling for the public’s assistance in identifying the child.

Anyone with information regarding Trinity’s death is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
