Las Vegas Gets an NFL Team

The Raiders, a team synonymous with the Oakland, Calif., except for a 13-year run in Los Angeles, will be packing up and moving to Las Vegas beginning with the 2020 season, reports the Las Vegas Sun. A 31-1 vote of NFL owners approved the move to southern Nevada and a planned $1.9 billion stadium.  “I know the ownership went the extra mile to try to find a solution in Oakland,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “Unfortunately, we didn’t get that done and we are all disappointed. ” But Clark County, Nev., Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak was elated. “On behalf of all the citizens of Clark County, it is my pleasure to say to the Raiders, Raider Nation and the entire NFL — welcome to fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada.”

Death Row Inmates in Arkansas Asking Judge to Halt Double Executions

Attorneys for eight Arkansas prisoners scheduled for lethal injections in a four-night series of double-executions over a 10-day period have asked a judge to block the plans to go through with them. “The rushed schedule appreciably increases the risk of harm to plaintiffs, falls far outside the bounds of modern penological practice, and disrespects the plaintiffs’ fundamental dignity — defects that all run against the Eighth Amendment’s protections,” the inmates argued in a court filing. Gov. Asa Hutchinson last month scheduled the executions to occur before the state’s supply of the lethal injection drug midazolam expires at the end of April, the Associated Press reported.

AG Sessions Warns of Federal Funds Being Stripped from ‘Sanctuary Cities’

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said some cities where undocumented immigrants are not handed over to the government for deportation could lose Federal grants that would go toward law enforcement. President Trump issued an executive order to that effect saying that the attorney general would have the authority to take action against any city that did not comply with laws prohibiting them from blocking the sharing of a person’s immigration status with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Washington Post says. “I urge our nation’s states and cities to consider carefully the harm they are doing to their citizens by refusing to enforce our immigration laws, and to rethink these policies,” Sessions said.

Mother of Man in London Terror Attacks ‘Shocked, Saddened and Numbed’

Janet Ajao, the mother of Khalid Masood, who fatally struck three people with a car on a bridge near the British Parliament building in London and stabbed a policeman before being shot to death by officers last week, condemned her son’s extremist actions. “I wish to make it absolutely clear, so there can be no doubt, I do not condone his actions nor support the beliefs he held that led to him committing this atrocity,” she told the BBC. ISIS claimed to be behind the attack, but authorities have found no connection between Masood and the terror group.
