Comedian Deon Cole Has Awakening After Attending HBCU Homecoming

“Black-ish” actor and comedian Deon Cole had a bit of an awakening over the weekend — and if you attended a PWI and have heard rumors of the inexplicably fulfilling experience of going to an HBCU, you’ll probably understand where he’s coming from.

After visiting Atlanta during the weekend of Spelman College, Clark and Moorehouse University’s homecoming festivities, the actor took to Instagram in a very sobering and contemplative post, to apologize.

“I want to apologize to my Black race,” Cole said. “You know I’ve seen some things down here and I realize that I’m just not Black enough.”

“I want to apologize to my race. And let you know I have let you down and I plan on doing better,” Cole, who will soon co-host the new BET game show “Face Value” alongside fellow comedian Tiffany Haddish, continued. “And being blacker — definitely being blacker. Because you all have let me know I truly am not Black enough. You motherf**kers are the blackest people I have ever seen in my life and I just want to say I’m sorry — and I plan to do better.”

Not everyone holds the courage to make such humbling revelations. You’re not alone, Cole. We all strive to be more than “Black-ish.”
