Exclusive Trailer: Common Breaks Down Jail System for Epix DocuSeries

Sheriff Thomas Dart pulled no punches when he spoke with hip-hop superstar Common who takes it to the street for the new Epix documentary series, “America Divided.” It’s the first of five episodes that explore the nation’s criminal justice system and the problems in it that disproportionately affect people of color.

“When you look at the disproportionate impact to people of color, it’s off the charts,” said Dart. “Our numbers virtually never change here. It’s always 75 percent of the population is African-American, 15 percent is Latino, and then you have about 10 percent that’s White. It doesn’t change, it’s been that way…definitely as long as I’ve been sheriff and well beyond that.”

Common serves as guest commentator for the series along with others including Rosario Dawson, Jesse Williams and America Ferrera. Watch our exclusive trailer above, then tune into the first episode, premiering Friday at 9 p.m. EDT on Epix.
