Investigators Working To Verify Possible Audio Confession In Kendrick Johnson Murder

Investigators receive possible audio confession in Kendrick Johnson murder and more in The Daily Rundown.

Eight years after their 17-year-old son Kendrick Johnson was found dead inside of a wrestling mat at Lowndes High School, Kenneth and Jacquelyn Johnson may be one step closer to receiving justice in their son’s murder. For years, the Johnson family has maintained that there was foul play involved in the mysterious death of their son.

In March, the Lowndes County Sheriff announced that the department was reinvestigating the case. They have since received audio of a possible confession to the murder, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. The audio, which was turned in to authorities by Johnson’s mother, purportedly captures someone confessing to playing a role in his death.

“They had a recording that they actually purchased from someone who said that it would be valuable as far as saying who possibly had committed the crime and change their situation,” Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk told reporters. “If it’s a hoax, it’s a very, very cruel hoax to do to Mrs. Johnson.

Investigators are working to verify the recording, which will not be made public at this time.

Education Department To Fully Forgive Loans Of Thousands Of Borrowers Impacted By Fraud

The Education Department will fully forgive the federal student loans of borrowers who were defrauded by their institutions as a result of “certain misconduct,” ABC News reports.

The Trump administration offered some students partial relief; however, this newly revised formula could extend to approximately 72,000 borrowers, providing almost $1 billion in relief.

“Borrowers deserve a simplified and fair path to relief when they have been harmed by their institution’s misconduct,” newly appointed Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, said in a statement. “A close review of these claims and the associated evidence showed these borrowers have been harmed and we will grant them a fresh start from their debt.”

Cardona adds that borrowers with approved claims will now “have a streamlined path to receiving full loan discharges.” The new provision will also include borrowers who previously received “less than a full loan discharge.”
