During a news conference on Wednesday, Captain Jay Baker, a representative of the Cherokee County sheriff’s office claimed that shooting suspect Robert Aaron Long's alleged killing of eight people, including six Asian women, may not have been incited by racism.
Baker received backlash online after using supportive words about Long, who admitted to the killings of eight people at an Asian-run business. “Yesterday was a really bad day for him, and this is what he did,” the officer said of Long, who is now charged with murder and assault. Baker went on to say that Long was "fed up" and at the "end of rope" when he killed the Asian women before trying to escape to Florida. Baker also stated that Long told law enforcement that he has a sex addiction and violating the spas was he's way to “take out that temptation”.
But, recent discoveries was found that Baker may be a looking through rose-colored glasses. As reported by HuffPo, apparently, the cop has engaged in anti-Asian messaging on social media; particularly involving him advertising products blaming the Asian community for coronavirus. So.... yea.
Vanessa Bryant Shares The Police Officers Names Who Took Pictures Of NBA Legend Kobe Bryant, Daughter, And Others
Vanessa Bryant is seeking justice. The widow of Kobe Bryant revealed the names of the police officers who took photos of the helicopter crash site that killed her husband, daughter Gianna, and seven others on Instagram.
PEOPLE notes that on Wednesday, Vanessa shared screenshots on her Instagram page of her legal complaint against the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department named four deputies involved in sharing the photos. In her post, she circled the defendants in red, which included: Joey Cruz, Rafael Mejia, Michael Russell and Raul Versales.
Vanessa claims that Joey Cruz "boasted that he had worked at the scene of the accident where Kobe Bryant had died" showing photos of the incident on January 28th, 2020 to a bartender and a bar patron. According to the complaint, Cruz also showed his niece the photos of Kobe and Gianna. Then the complaint goes on to state that the bartender who saw the photos shared with customers that he had seen the photos and "described specific characteristics of Mr. Bryant's remains".
Hopefully justice will be served here and the Bryant family can mourn in peace.
Samaria Rice calls out Tamika Mallory and Writer Shaun King Following The Grammy's
Samaria Rice, mother of Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old boy who was shot and killed by a police officer in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2014 called out the Black Lives Matter organization following the BLM segment at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night. Black Lives Matter activists Tamika Mallory made a speech at the Grammys on Sunday night alongside rapper Lil Baby, during a police-brutality-themed performance.
"We will never have justice because of things like this,” Rice said, commenting on a video of Mallory’s Grammys appearance. She also went off on Facebook calling out civil-rights attorneys Ben Crump and S. Lee Merrit as “ambulance chasers". Writer and activist Shaun King jumped to Mallory's defense by calling out Rice claiming she's “angry at the world” because the system failed to give her justice for her son on Facebook.
“Ultimately, what I know is that a grieving mother like Samaria Rice has every right to be skeptical and hurt and suspicious and cynical,” King added. “She wasn’t born that way, but this evil and unrelentingly racist country forced her into that corner. It’s our job to gracefully and patiently help her find her way out.”
On Wednesday, Rice shared a joint statement with Lisa Simpson, the mother of 18-year-old Richard Risher, who was killed by LAPD officers in 2016.
“We don’t want or need y’all parading in the streets accumulating donations, platforms, movie deals, etc. off the deaths of our loved ones, while the families and communities are left broken,” reads the statement, which specifically calls out Mallory, King, Crump, Merritt, Melina Abdullah and BLMGN’s Patrisse Cullors.
The two mothers demand that Black Lives Matter LA and “all who have exploited Tamir Rice” provide them with financial assistance. Simpson said her family is facing homelessness, whereas Rice wants funds for the Tamir Rice Foundation.
