September 9th is the Dallas Cowboys first game for the National Football League’s 2018 season and when the national anthem is taking place Dak Prescott will be standing. During a press conference at training camp for the Cowboys, Prescott made his feelings known to the media about his thoughts on the protests and his plans to stand during the anthem.

Prescott said he doesn’t think the national anthem is the right time to hold protests. He went on to say he has never protested the anthem and spoke about football’s ability to bring people together. Prescott said the protests were about bringing awareness to social justice issues and now is the time for action.

Prescott’s comments come on the heels of recent comments by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Cowboys Chief Operating Officer Stephen Jones regarding anthem protests and their rules to make players stand. Both have said the players must stand for the anthem. United States President Donald Trump tweeted his support of the Cowboy’s policy on Friday. The NFL has continued to battle the anthem protest issue since Colin Kaepernick’s protest became a hot topic in the media. Since Kaepernick’s exit from the league, the drama has continued with President Trump continuing to weigh in, advertisers making their displeasure known, fans protesting players, and now the NFLPA battling with the NFL over the anthem policy. Former players like Shannon Sharpe have come out against Prescott’s statements with his recent tweets:
