Deadline reports Kaluuya is in talks to star in Jesus Was My Homeboy as Hampton, the respected grass-roots civil rights activist who became chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Panthers organization and deputy chairman of the national BPP. In 1969, Hampton and fellow Panther Mark Clark were killed during a raid by a tactical unit carrying out orders from the Chicago PD and the FBI.
Atlanta actor Stanfield is in talks to play William O’Neal, the man who betrayed Hampton by working with the FBI. O’Neal provided the organization with detailed plans of Hampton’s home before the raid took place.
The film will be produced by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and Charles D. King’s MACRO.
