Police on Friday identified Darren Wilson as the officer who shot and killed Mike Brown, an unarmed Black teenager, in the St. Louis suburbs last weekend, touching off four nights of turbulence on the streets.

Thomas Jackson, the police chief of Ferguson, Missouri, made the announcement in front of a gas station that was burned during the demonstrations.

Jackson also reported during the press conference that Brown was a suspect in a robbery; however, details about what role the alleged robbery may have played in the officer's pursuit of Brown are unclear.
