Allyson Felix Discusses the 'Isolating' Effects of Hiding Her Pregnancy
In an interview with TIME magazine, sprinter Allyson Felix talked about the lengths that she went to in order to hide her pregnancy out of fear that it would jeopardize her contract negotiations with Nike. As she began to show, the athlete says that she wore baggy clothes, trained before dawn so that she would not be seen, and held a small baby shower of about 15 people, and asked guests not to bring cell phones or cameras. “It was super isolating and very lonely,” Felix recalled. “I think about that a lot. All of those things that you look forward to, those experiences of embracing that time, I didn’t get to do any of that. I don’t feel like I ever really was pregnant.”
Angela Bassett Says There Are 5 Versions of 'Black Panther' Sequel Script
In the wake of Chadwick Boseman's death, the Black Panther franchise underwent its share of growing pains. Angela Bassett, who plays King T'Challa's mother, revealed to Entertainment Tonight that although production for the sequel began last month, the script is still evolving. "I don't know what it's going to look like at all," Bassett told Entertainment Tonight about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever during a recent interview. "There have been about five incarnations of the script and I hear another one's coming."
Mike Hill Says He Was Told That He Was 'Too Ghetto' for a Promotion at ESPN
As former employees continue to weigh in on the workplace culture at ESPN, sports commentator Mike Hill recalled a time when he was told that he was "too ghetto" to be promoted. “There has not been one Black person that has been on the air that I can think of that has not gone through hell at ESPN," Hill said on BNC News. "When I was there, I was told, in a meeting with a talent executive, they said, ‘the reason you’re not moving up here at ESPN is because you’re too ghetto.’ This is from an executive, a talent executive there, an old white man."
Instagram Now Highlighting Black-Owned Businesses
A new feature on Instagram makes it easier for pages run by Black-owned businesses to identify themselves. The photo-sharing platform will be rolling out Black-owned business badges. "We’re making it easier for people to discover Black-owned businesses directly on Instagram," Instagram announced in June. "Businesses based in the US with Shops on Instagram will now be able to designate as Black-owned and display a 'Black-owned' label."
Wendy Williams Slammed For Callous Reporting On TikToker's Death
Wendy Williams is trending on social media platforms again. This time, the backlash is due to her tone-deaf reporting on TikTok star Sway's death. "I have no idea who this is. Neither does Norman [her producer]. Neither does one person in this building," said the daytime television host during the July 7 episode before asking her audience to "clap if they knew who Swavy was." Williams then awkwardly went on to explain that Sway was a TikTok personality. "Here he is. He's 19 and he was murdered Monday morning," said concluded.
