Today, Gucci announced the 2021 class of Changemakers North America Scholars. The $1.5 million scholarship program, which is in its second year, aims to further the brand's commitment to fostering change in the fashion industry. Among this year's class of Changemakers are undergraduate students pursuing careers in fashion

“We are honored to announce the selection of these talented and creative students from all backgrounds and regions in North America. They represent HBCUs, community colleges, fashion schools, and non-fashion schools alike," said Antoine Phillips, Vice President of Brand and Culture Engagement in a press release obtained by EBONY. "Their diverse points of view embody the future of not only fashion but creative industries as a whole. We look forward to engaging with all of our scholars over the coming months ahead.”

22 Changemakers were selected for this year's program from a pool of 451 applicants. In addition to academic scholarships up to $20,000, participants will also receive mentorship and virtual internships with Gucci America.

“After being granted the opportunity to be one of the recipients of the  Gucci Changemakers Scholars award, I found an unbelievable amount of stress taken off my shoulders," expressed 2020 and 2021 Gucci Changemakers Scholar Miles Richards. "And without a shadow of a doubt, the program provided me with the  creative freedom to express myself without the burden of tuition during my first year as  an art major.”
