According to a police autopsy first obtained by the Los Angeles Times, Ezell Ford, an unarmed Black man, was shot three times by police: once each in the right arm, back, and side. The skin surrounding the fatal gunshot wound to his back shows a "muzzle imprint."

Ford was shot dead by police on August 11. The autopsy officially classifies his death as a homicide. The LAPD said he was killed while struggling with an officer, attempting to take his gun. Family members said Ford, a mentally-ill 25-year-old, was shot in the back while lying on the ground.
