Five Boko Haram Members Killed in Explosion

On Sunday, Nigeria's military said that five suspected members of Boko Haram were killed in an explosion that struck a small town in the country's restive northeast region. Col. Victor Ebhaleme said the blast hit the town of Biu in the Borno state, where Boko Haram has been carrying out a series of attacks in recent months. Investigators arrived in Biu after the explosion Saturday and found the remains of five people they believe belong to Boko Haram. Two others were arrested in the operation.

For a while now, Boko Haram has been waging an internal war against Nigeria's central government, where its incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan hasn't been able to have any "good luck" in ceasing the increasingly bloody fight. The beef is a reaction from Boko Haram against the government's effort to enact strict Sharia law across the multi-ethnic nation of more than 160 million people.
