School Shooting Survivor Recalls Tragedy on ‘TODAY’

A survivor of the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School recalled Tuesday’s tragic shooting on the ‘TODAY’ show.

High school junior Samantha Grady told the morning show’s co-anchors Savannah Guthrie and Hodi Ktob about the moment bullets flew into their classroom, injuring Grady and eventually killing her best friend.

“We were already situated by the bookshelf. She was like, ‘Grab a book, grab a book,’” she said of her friend on Thursday. “And so I took a book. It was a tiny book, but I took a book and I held it up. I believe, maybe, the book kind of deterred some of the bullets, so it didn’t hit me so badly. She was the one who gave me the idea. She definitely helped me a lot.”

When asked about the status of her friend, who’d been shot right next to her, Grady began tearing up.

“Unfortunately she didn’t make it,” the young girl told the anchors.

Nikolas Cruz, who was responsible for taking 17 lives on Tuesday, has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.
