Remember Demetria Obilor? The curvaceous, Dallas traffic reporter who received hate mail and online slander for being “too big” for TV?
Well, she is the biggest deal on TV right now! And for those who body shamed her, like they say – there is no such thing as “bad” press. Yes!
Ever since a woman by the name of “Jan,” threatened to boycott the news program that Obilor is on because she felt the reporter is a “size 16 woman in a size 6 dress, and looks ridiculous,” existing and new fans of the newscaster alike have taken to social media to offer up their support of the beautiful TV personality. From artist Chance the Rapper calling Jan “Big Mad,” to millions of patrons online showering Obilor with body-positive compliments, it’s safe to say that Jan’s rant has contributed to Obilor’s viral success!
So much so, that actress Gabrielle Union took to her own Instagram to not only applaud the journalist for handling her body shaming like a boss, but to also deem her the “real life Mary Jane.”
“Sending love, light and support to Dallas News Anchor Demetria Obilor who was recently body shamed online. YOU are the real life Mary Jane… A go-getter news anchor who dresses DOPE and doesn’t give a s*** what everyone else thinks. Keep on kicking ass and taking names queen. We love you just the way you are!”
Union even went on further to gift Obilor with clothing from her collection with renowned women’s clothing brand, New York and Company:
And since you slay everything you wear, I’m sending you a bunch of pieces from my [New York and Company] collection and some credit for extra pieces!”
Talk about a negative turning into a positive! We wonder how Obilor’s critics feels now?
Message to Jan: Thanks for the haterism!
