Teresa Carter is astounded by what she has been told by Jonesboro, Arkansas police, as they gave her the unfortunate news about her son. Officers picked up Chavis Carter and charged him with possession of drugs and missing a court date on past drug charges, yet he didn't make it to central booking. Sergeant Lyle Waterworth said, "As protocol he was handcuffed behind his back and double locked, and searched." Somehow, police say that minutes later, they heard a thumping noise, turned around, and found Chavis shot dead.

"Any given officer has missed something on a search, be it drugs, knife, razor blades, this instance it happened to be a gun," said Sergeant Waterworth. His mother disagrees with the report, saying, "I think they killed him. My son wasn't suicidal." She may have probable cause as Carter's mother says her son called his girlfriend while pulled over, to say he'd call her from jail. The mother said she was also told her son was shot in his right temple, yet contends that he was left handed. She says it just doesn't add up. Police say they are still investigating and haven't ruled out the possibility that someone else may have shot Chavis Carter.
