Howard University’s athletic department has suspended all games until an internal review is complete, according to a university spokesperson.

Dr. Kerry Ann Hamilton said in a statement “It is with great regret that we have temporarily suspended intercollegiate athletic competition. This is a self-imposed action while the University conducts a review. We are working quickly to resolve this issue.”

According to some student athletes, who have asked to remain anonymous, administrators from the athletic department informed them this past weekend that there were ineligible to play because of improperly spent funds from book vouchers. Athletes said they were told they were to pay back the money they spent before they can register for classes and play again.

An NCAA compliance officer suggested to the Washington City Paper that the fact that Howard imposed its own suspension of athletics implies more than just an issue with book vouchers.
