Jay-Z Speaks at Trayvon Martin Rally

Jay-Z

Jay-Z continues to support the family of Trayvon Martin, who was harassed and killed by a former Florida security guard in 2012.

During the Peace Walk and Peace Talk rally in Miami, which honored the late teen, the rapper lent his voice to advocate for social justice reports Rolling Stone.

“We want to make sure that we stand and support and never forget that Trayvon serves as a beacon of light to the people out here,” the “4:44” artist said. “So you guys will never have to go through the pain and hurt that these guys went through.”

“And his name will sit alongside the greats whom lost their lives to push our culture forward — the Martin Luther Kings, the Gandhis. That’s the intention that we set, that his name serves as a beacon of light and hope to push us in a better direction, so thank you guys for your support. Thank you for being here.”

Last March, Jay-Z announced he would be producing a docu-series on Martin as well as Mike Brown who was killed just two years later by a police officer in Ferguson, MO.

Martin would have turned 23 years old on Feb. 5.
