Jesse Jackson Jr. Selling His D.C. Home

Jesse Jackson Jr.

Jesse Jackson Jr. is selling his Washington, D.C. home to help cover the cost of mounting medical bills, according to a spokesman. The Illinois representative recently returned to his Washington home after seeking treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for depression. He has not been seen on Capitol Hill since his return almost two weeks ago. First reported Wednesday by the Chicago Tribune, Jackson is listing his Victorian-style townhouse for $2.5 million. The house was built in 1921 and includes four bedrooms, three full baths, two half-baths, five fireplaces, a kitchen, sun room, rooftop deck, and jacuzzi, according to the Tribune.

Jackson's aide, Rick Bryant, cited the reasons behind his selling of his Washington, D.C. home, saying, "Like millions of Americans, Congressman Jackson and Mrs. Jackson are grappling with soaring healthcare costs and are selling their residence to help defray costs of their obligations." "The Congressman would like to personally thank everyone who has offered prayers on behalf of his family." Jackson and his wife, Chicago Alderman Sandi Jackson, also own a home in Chicago.
