Florida Judge Steps Down from George Zimmerman Trial

Judge Jessica Recksiedler, who had been assigned to preside over George Zimmerman’s Second-Degree murder trial has issued a statement saying that she is stepping down. Earlier this week, Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara, suggested that Recksiedler rescue herself from the proceedings due to her husband’s affiliation with Mark NeJame, a CNN legal analyst who publicly commented on the case and was even approached about representing Zimmerman.

The next judge in rotation, John D.Galluzzo has also stepped forward, admitting to his own conflict of interest in the case, stating that he should not preside over a case that his long time friend and business affiliate O’Mara is involved with. This leaves Judge Kenneth R. Lester, Jr. as the likely judge who will oversee the Zimmerman Case.

George Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin on February 26th. Zimmerman is claiming self-defense and is currently incarcerated, awaiting his bail hearing appearance on Friday.
