Singer Katy Perry’s fashion line has removed shoes that some have said resembled blackface, according to The Guardian.
The sandals and loafers, which are black and feature large red lips and eyes, were removed from retailers. The Katy Perry Collection also sold the shoe in a nude color.
“In order to be respectful and sensitive, the team is in the process of pulling the shoes,” a spokesperson for the collection told TMZ.
The company’s decision to remove the shoes comes after Italian luxury brand Gucci faced backlash last week for a sweater that many said resembled blackface.
The label apologized, saying, “We consider diversity to be a fundamental value to be fully upheld, respected, and at the forefront of every decision we make.”
Gucci deeply apologizes for the offense caused by the wool balaclava jumper.
