The boyfriend of Korryn Gaines, a 23-year-old Maryland woman shot and killed by police after an hours-long standoff, has been arrested. The New York Daily News reports that 39-year-old Kareem Kiean Courtney was charged with nine criminal counts Friday, including drug possession, heroin distribution and a variety of gun charges.

Baltimore County Police found 26.7 grams of heroin after searching the Randallstown residence following last week’s standoff with Gaines. The drugs were found in the form of 75 capsules, along with a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition.

The weapon is the same one Gaines used during last Monday’s shootout with police, officials said. Courtney has a prior attempted murder conviction, officials said. He is being held without bond in the county jail.

Baltimore police fatally shot the 23-year-old mother Monday after she barricaded herself, along with her 5-year-old son inside the home. Her son was also wounded. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The standoff happened when three officers showed up to serve warrants for Gaines and Courtney. Gaines was wanted for failure to appear in court for a traffic violation. Courtney was wanted for a second-degree assault charge connected to a domestic violence incident that took place in June.

Officials say the names of the officers involved in the shooting would not be released due to “an unprecedented number of threats against police, including threats and actions against specific officers and officials.”
