Marvin Sordell Claims Racial Abuse During Game

Marvin Sordell

21-year-old English soccer player, Marvin Sordell, took to Twitter to vent his frustrations about derogatory remarks made to him and teammates Lee Chung-Yong, Darren Pratley, and Benik Afobe during the Bolton vs. Millwall game. The Bolton Wanderers striker tweeted, "Chungy, Pratts, Benik and I had all sorts of things said to us," instantly garnering the attention of The Football Association who are now investigating his allegations. "Millwall and Bolton Wanderers are investigating allegations made by Bolton player Marvin Sordell that he was subjected to racial abuse by an individual while warming up as a substitute during Saturday's Championship clash at The Den," a Millwall spokesman said. "At this stage, we are trying to find any corroborative evidence we could use to take the allegations forward."

Both clubs remain determined that racist behavior or language, of any kind, will not be tolerated. The former Watford striker, who was part of the Great Britain football squad at London 2012, also wrote on the social networking site, "Putting the match aside, it's 2012 in England and people are still shouting racial abuse at a football game?" While there has been no complaint made to the Metropolitan Police, any allegations of racist behavior or chanting should not be accepted at all. A final word should be handed down by the Football Association by the middle of this week detailing their findings.
