DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced that Michael Tyler will serve as the Director of African American Media, one of the latest in a series of communications team hires ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Tyler comes to the DNC from Atlanta where he served as Press Secretary for Michelle Nunn’s campaign for U.S. Senate. In addition to serving as a lead spokesperson for the campaign, he also oversaw an aggressive African American media operation involving both in-state and national radio, television and print media outlets. Before that, Tyler was Director of Communications for the Atlanta City Council, and previously served as a field organizer on the Obama 2008 campaign in Virginia. Tyler graduated from Georgetown University.
“I am excited to have Michael join our team,” DNC Communications Director Mo Elleithee said. “Michael’s abilities and experience are exactly what we need as we gear up for 2016. As we have done for years, the Democratic Party will continue to reach out, advocate for, and empower core constituencies. Michael’s work will be a key component of that outreach.”
