On Sunday, Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan said President Barack Obama has been criticized more than any other president (even by him) because of his race, and believes the racial hatred could lead to an assassination attempt. “Do you think they’re wicked enough to be plotting our brother’s assassination as we speak?” he rhetorically asked a crowd attending the annual summit. Not so shocking of a question when you see just how many things people have to say about our current Commander-in-Chief. But Farrakhan’s speech, made at the United Center in Chicago, contained a few nuggets of truth.
“They have called President Barack Obama a racist, an anti-Semite, a socialist, a communist, a foreigner, an alien and some have even called him a terrorist,” Farrakhan said, according to the AP. “Obama has really got them upset. Republicans are looking for some White person. Anybody. Anybody.” While “anybody” really seems to boil down to Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney, it is evident that the quality of the GOP’s would-be elected representative pails in comparison to President Barack Obama.
While Farrakhan called out conservatives, he himself has previously called President Obama an “assassin” and a “murderer” for his actions in Libya with the death of leader Muammar Gaddafi. When it comes to his concerns about a potential assassination, is he unconsciously adding fuel to the fire? Or is Farrakhan on to something?
