Names of Victims in Church Shooting Released

8 S.C. victims named, including part-time pastor

Among the nine dead at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., was the Rev. Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, a part-time pastor to the congregation, according to the local coroner and family members posting on social media. The Charleston County coroner, Rae Wooten, released the names of all nine victims during a Thursday afternoon press conference. Coleman-Singleton was slain, along with the church's chief pastor, the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, and seven others on Wednesday night by a lone White gunman. A suspect, 21-year-old Dylann Roof, was arrested on Thursday. (See below for details about the other victims.)

On the Facebook page of a sister, Shalisa Coleman, friends and family mourned Coleman-Singleton, who also worked as an athletics coach and speech specialist at a nearby school. "My life has truly changed," Coleman wrote among dozens of condolence messages. One, identified as TaMisha Kimble, said, "I love you all. I could have never imagined this. I would not [have] wished this on my worst enemy."
