Netflix has hired ex-ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey, who left the network last month, according to Vulture.
Dungey will be joining the streaming giant in the newly created role of vice president of original content, in which she will oversee “a large and crucial portion” of Netflix’s content.
During her time at ABC, Dungey greenlighted hits such as Scandal and The Good Doctor.
She also fired comedian Roseanne Barr in May from the eponymous reboot of Barr’s show following the star’s racist tirade.
Dungey’s departure marks another high-profile exit from ABC to Netflix. Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Greys Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder, left her longtime home at ABC in 2017 to join Netflix, where she’s working on eight new shows for the streamer. Black-ish producer Kenya Barris left ABC earlier this year to create series for Netflix. Both reportedly inked massive nine-figure deals.
“She’s a risk-taker and ground-breaker and talent love working with her,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, said in a press release to Vulture.
Dungey will start her new role in February and report to the company’s head of original series, Cindy Holland, who said she was looking forward “to partnering with her as we continue to grow and evolve our global network. I have been a fan of her character and approach from our early days as executives.”
