Donald Trump

A new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that 57 percent of American adults believe that President Donald Trump is a racist. The research for the survey took place from Feb. 15 to 19 and included 1,337 adults.

Of the sample size surveyed three-quarters of Hispanics, 8 in 10 Blacks, and about half of Whites came to this conclusion. Among the political parties, eighty-five percent of Democrats also consider Trump to be racist with just above 20 percent of Republicans agreeing with the sentiment.
When asked about his policies more than half of the respondents said they are bad for Muslims and Hispanics. Forty-seven percent also believe that they are bad for African-Americans. The poll is used to highlight African-Americans’ disapproval of how Trump is governing the country. A high majority think that the United States is headed in the wrong direction and that conditions have gone downhill within the last 12 months.
In contrast, about 45 percent of White Americans approve of the job Trump is doing. Of this racial group 35 percent believing the state of the country is improving.
These findings show the increasing divide on race relations in America during the current presidency. It may come as no surprise because Trump has spent his campaign run and presidency making bigoted comments. He has called African countries “sh*tholes,” is fighting for a Muslim ban and promised to build a wall along the Mexican border. Despite these comments and actions, he said he is the least racist person anyone will encounter.
