The victims of a brutal quadruple homicide in upstate New York have been identified.
On Wednesday, the New York Post reported 36-year-old Shanta Myers, her 22-year-old partner Brandi Mells and Myers’ two children were the victims of a gruesome killing in Troy, NY. They were discovered bound with their throats slashed on Tuesday.
Troy Police Chief James Tedesco said he’d never witnessed a crime scene as grisly as that which he saw in the family’s basement on Tuesday.
“After being in this business for nearly 42 years, I can say I have not seen savagery like this,” he said Wednesday. “Only a person of savagery would do something like this.”
The superintendent of the Troy school district which the two youngest victims, 5-year-old Shanice and 11-year-old Jeremiah Myers attended, released a statement expressing sympathies and offering grief counseling on behalf of the district. The Post reports an older son was not home at the time of the killing.
Police have yet to find any suspects or persons of interest in the slaying. They are encouraging anyone with information to come forward. Community leaders are urging everyone in the community to be especially cautious although they don’t believe any grave threat has been posed to the community at-large.
“Until they catch whoever did this, there are certainly reasons to be fearful,” Oak Grove Baptist Church Pastor Jackie Robinson Sr. said according to the Post. “We don’t know who did it. Until we find out, it certainly makes sense to be vigilant and keep your doors locked.”
