Nigeria Wants United Nations to Sanction Boko Haram

Nigeria Seeks UN Sanctions on Boko Haram

Nigeria has requested that the United Nations sanction Boko Haram.

Diplomats say Nigeria has asked the U.N. Security Council to impose sanctions on Boko Haram, the Islamic extremist group responsible for a wave of deadly attacks and the recent abduction of nearly 300 schoolgirls.

The diplomats said Tuesday that Nigeria asked the council committee monitoring sanctions against al-Qaida to add Boko Haram to the list of organizations subject to an arms embargo and asset freeze.
