The city of Weston, Fla. put the kibosh of three things: nightclubs, dance halls, and skating rinks. The city has never had any of the aforementioned businesses and a new ordinance made sure they never will. According to the city’s commission, nightlife attractions draw "large crowds" on a nightly basis, which can cause traffic and noise problems for residents and businesses nearby, thus straining city resources.
"There aren't those [nightlife] uses in Weston, there won't be those uses in Weston, and we were never planning to allow those uses in Weston," said Weston Mayor Eric Hersh. "This is something that we thought would protect the city." In addition, local reports of gunfire and stabbings in and around clubs over the past decade urged them to change their zoning code. On the upside, residents can go to neighboring cities to get their party on and, by law, school dances, gatherings at the YMCA, city parks, and skate parks are allowed in the south Florida city.
