A Chicago police officer who fatally wounded a 17-year-old teen after shooting him at least 16 times at close range has been charged.

The officer arrived at the criminal courts building around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

He is expected to appear in bond court around noon. The news follows an order handed down by a Cook County judge giving authorities until Wednesday to release video footage of the Oct. 2014 incident.

The city is bracing for outrage, and called for faith leaders and activists to maintain peace upon the video’s release.
