POLITICS AS (UN)USUAL:This Week in Politics

Barack Obama troop talking

A look at the political week that was…

-Billionaires pledge unlimited campaign donations to Mitt Romney thanks to the Supreme Court case Citizens United.  Obama supporters can no longer just sit back and think he’s going to out raise the Republicans this time around.  OFA has lagged behind Romney two months in a row.

Michigan’s newly passed anti-abortion law is horrible.  And just after a grand total of 20 minutes of debate the Michigan House passed legislation that includes state mandated scripts for doctors, new TRAP laws that only serve to make insurance more complicated, stricter regulations, and a ban on all abortions after 20 weeks even in cases of rape and incest.  Let’s hope the Michigan state senate blocks the law but given their makeup that doesn’t look likely.

The Pentagon is planning their very first gay pride event.  This is historic and would be the first since the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

The Obama campaign’s truth team is up with another video, this time tackling Republicans’ false claims about government spending during the Obama presidency.

Obama gives big campaign speech in Cleveland, Ohio and most analysts are calling it a home run. Obama outlined his contrasting vision for the economy and listed 5 pillars key to our future: infrastructure, innovation, education, tax reform, and clean energy. Check it here.

Mitt Romney was also in Ohio laying out his economic vision.  It sounds a lot like the Bush years.  Hopefully voters will notice.

-And in lighter news, our First Lady Michelle Obama is on Pinterest.

This Sunday the NAACP and LGBT advocacy groups will march down 5th avenue in New York City to protest the NYPD’s controversial Stop and Frisk policy.
