Report Highlights Most Prejudiced Cities, States

An analysis of states which are tweeting the most derogatory language posted on apartment search website Abodo.com gives an understanding, and possibly surprising look at what cities residents use the most prejudiced language in social media.

As part of its series which takes a look at the best places to live in the U.S., Abodo decided to analyze the language Americans use when tweeting about different races, ethnicities, genders, religions, and sexual orientations and compiled them in a study called “America’s Most P.C. and Prejudiced Places.”

Researchers looked at terms that run the gamut from P.C. to prejudiced and offensive in nature. Here’s what they found:

  • Louisiana residents use the most derogatory language out of all of the states, with 1,155 tweets per 100,000 total tweets.
  • Baltimore, Atlanta and New Orleans are the top three cities for the most anti-Black tweets.
  • New Orleans and Atlanta also claim the first and second spots for the most tweets with derogatory language against women.
  • Buffalo, NY and Arlington, TX tweet the most anti-gay tweets.

The analysis is based on 12 million tweets combed through by researchers that were posted from June 2014 to December 2015. In addition to Louisiana, Nevada, Texas, Maryland, Delaware, Ohio, California, Michigan, Georgia and Rhode Island made the list for the most derogatory states.

States with the most P.C. language include, Wyoming, Montana, Vermont, South Dakota, Idaho, Arkansas, Minnesota, Maine, North Dakota and Wisconsin.
