Prisoners Escape After Taliban Raid

Northern Pakistani officials reported that hundreds of inmates escaped Sunday morning after a Taliban raid on a Bannu prison facility. The raid lasted more than two hours, wounded four prison officials, and freed 384 of the 944 inmates. Seen as a strategic attack to free a senior Taliban commander, it occurred in an area known for having a heavy militant presence.

Authorities are still investigating how the militants entered the facilities and the names of those who escaped. They do know that 21 of the men who escaped were high-profile militants and two of them were awaiting execution. Clearly, the Taliban is putting thought into their raids, showing that the rumored to be struggling terrorist organization is still able to pull off acts of organized violence.
