Hours after R. Kelly appeared in an explosive CBS interview, the singer was back in police custody. Kelly was escorted out of a Chicago courtroom and immediately arrested after attending a child support hearing on Wednesday, March 6.

According to TMZ, the singer owes his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, $161,633 in back child support for their three children. Failure to pay any amount over $20,000 in child support is considered a felony in Illinois.

The singer will not be released from police custody until he pays his child support debt in full, the outlet reported. CBS correspondent Jericka Duncan  claims a spokesperson for the singer said, in a news conference after the judge's ruling Wednesday afternoon, Kelly did not have the money, but they hoped to have him out of jail by next week.

The father of three revealed, in his new interview, plans to mend the estranged relationship with his children. "I’m fighting to have a relationship with my kids most of all, more than anything. They love me. I love them,” he explained.

Kelly is also facing a slew of criminal charges in Chicago for aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The singer turned himself into police after he was indicted on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in February. He was later released after posting $100,000 bond.
