A group of demonstrators at a Wednesday night Boston Red Soxs game rolled out a sign reading “racism is as American as baseball.” During the fourth inning of the game which took place at Boston’s Fenway Park, a banner was unfurled over the scoreboard before being seized by security.

A few people on social media were confused as to whether the sign meant to condemn or champion racism. But the protesters clarified their message with CSN New England.

We want to remind everyone that just as baseball is fundamental to American culture and history, so too is racism,” one of the protesters told the news outlet.

“White people need to wake up to this reality before white supremacy can truly be dismantled,” the protester said. “We urge anyone who is interested in learning more or taking action to contact their local racial justice organization.”
