The Rev. Al Sharpton will deliver the eulogy at the funeral for 22-year-old Stephon Clark, the unarmed Black man killed by Sacramento, California police 10 days ago, the National Action Network announced on Tuesday.
Clark was shot 20 times by police officers in his grandparents’ backyard on March 18 after police received calls that someone was breaking into vehicles in the area where the young man lived. He was holding a cell phone when he was shot, which officers said they believed was a gun.
His death has caused outrage and has led to protests in Sacramento. Clark’s funeral is scheduled for Thursday.
“Certainly this case has not gotten the national attention that I think it deserves,” Sharpton said on his MSNBC show PoliticsNation. “Twenty shots at an unarmed man. I immediately was alarmed by this.”
