#SayHerName Campaign Sheds Light on Abuse of Black Women

BYP100, Black Lives Matter national,Ferguson Action and Project South are planning a series of actions across the nation meant to shed light on the abuses that Black women (cis and trans), face in America.

On May 19, the groups will launch the #SayHerName day of action, where they will ask folks to participate in lifting up women and femmes who are no longer with us, and those who serve as an inspiration in our everyday lives.

“#SayHerName uplifts and centers the experiences of people like Gynnya McMillan, Yuvette Henderson, Wakiesha Wilson and more who have been taken from us by state and intimate partner violence,” the group said in a statement emailed to EBONY.

The group is requesting that participants use the #SayHerName hashtag to honor women and femmes who have lost their lives on social media. Participants are also encouraged to use the #InHerHonor hashtag to lift up women and femmes who are fighting and thriving in the face of adversity or who died from natural causes.
