Sen. Cory Booker Releases Confidential Docs on Kavanaugh, Faces Expulsion

Cory Booker

Sen. Cory Booker released e-mails Thursday about “racial profiling” involving President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh. The action of making the committee’s confidential documents public may lead to the New Jersey senator’s expulsion from Congress, according to The New York Times.

During Kavanaugh’s confirmation, hearing Booker voiced his opposition to the proceedings, calling¬† them “unfair” and “unnecessary.” He made it clear to point out the process is being rushed.

Booker asserted that it is “absurd” that the incumbent is allowed to nominate the judge who will ultimately preside over a Supreme Court case involving the current White House administration, which is under investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller for the Russia probe.

“That’s why this system is rigged,” the Democrat said. “The one email that is entitled ‘Racial Profiling’ has somehow been designated as something the public couldn’t see. This isn’t a national security issue whatsoever. And that’s why I’m saying the system is rigged.”

In response to Booker, Sen. John Cornyn of Texas said, “Running for president is no excuse for violating the rules of the Senate. This is no different from the senator deciding to release classified information that is deemed classified.”

Booker acknowledged he could be “ousted from the Senate” for his actions, but proceeded to share the four documents in question on his personal Twitter account. He told Cornyn to “bring it,” about the consequences that could be brought against him.
