According to the testimony of several women across several branches of the armed forces, cases of alleged sexual assault are often disregarded or misdiagnosed. CNN gathered stories of women who say there were raped by servicemen. Upon reporting the incidents, these women were basically told by senior officers that it did not happen. Some women say they were immediately diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder to cover up the assaults.

Despite the military’s “zero tolerance” policy," a reported 3,191 cases of military sexual assaults were made in 2011, a huge number that pales in comparison to 19,000 — the Pentagon's disturbingly high estimate of how many cases there actually were last year. Wow.
