Simone Biles Opens Up About Sexual Assault

In the latest episode of her Facebook Watch docu-series, “Simone v. Herself,” Simone Biles opened up about the sexual assault she suffered at the hands of former USA Gymnastics physician Larry Nassar. Initially, Biles admits that she did not want to speak about the abuse, but eventually, keeping her feelings bottled up weighed on the Olympic gymnast’s mental health. “I remember telling my mom and my agent that I slept all the time, and it’s basically because sleeping was basically better than offing myself,” said a tearful Biles. “It was like my way to escape reality. And sleeping was the closest thing to death for me at that point, so I just slept all the time.” As she continues to work through her healing, Biles also uses her voice and influence to uplift survivors of sexual assault.

Naomi Osaka Discusses Pulling Out Of French Open In Personal Essay

In a personal essay for TIME, Naomi Osaka addressed some of the factors that played a role in her decision to pass on press conferences during the French Open, which later resulted in her decision to pull out of the tournament altogether. “I felt under a great amount of pressure to disclose my symptoms—frankly because the press and the tournament did not believe me. I also do not want to have to engage in a scrutiny of my personal medical history ever again,” Osake wrote. “So I ask the press for some level of privacy and empathy next time we meet…. I do hope that people can relate and understand it’s ok to not be ok; and it’s ok to talk about it.”

Shamari DeVoe Shares Why She Left RHOA

In an interview with The Jasmine Brand, Shamari DeVoe explained that she chose to leave Real Housewives of Atlanta due to misleading editing, which framed her to look like an alcoholic. There’s a lot in editing, so they make you look like something that you’re not,” said DeVoe, who left the show after just one season. “They wanted to show me with my lil’ wine and make it seem like I’m just this drunk or whatever. But that’s not me—there’s a balance.” The Blaque singer went on to say that the editing got so extreme that her mother began to question why she was drinking so much.
