Simone Biles Opens Up About Sexual Assault

In the latest episode of her Facebook Watch docu-series, "Simone v. Herself," Simone Biles opened up about the sexual assault she suffered at the hands of former USA Gymnastics physician Larry Nassar. Initially, Biles admits that she did not want to speak about the abuse, but eventually, keeping her feelings bottled up weighed on the Olympic gymnast's mental health. “I remember telling my mom and my agent that I slept all the time, and it’s basically because sleeping was basically better than offing myself,” said a tearful Biles. “It was like my way to escape reality. And sleeping was the closest thing to death for me at that point, so I just slept all the time." As she continues to work through her healing, Biles also uses her voice and influence to uplift survivors of sexual assault.

I also do not want to have to engage in a scrutiny of my personal medical history ever again," Osake wrote. "So I ask the press for some level of privacy and empathy next time we meet…. I do hope that people can relate and understand it’s ok to not be ok; and it’s ok to talk about it.”
