Eighth graders graduating from their middle school was given a gift to be used at their new high schools. A bulletproof shield.

Unequal Technologies provided the students at St. Cornelius Catholic School in Chadds Ford, PA with “ballistic shields” on Monday, TIME reports.

This move comes months after the Parkland, Fla shooting that left 17 people dead and a few weeks after the deadly school shooting in Santa Fe, TX that killed 10 people.

“Handguns are useless against a product like this,” said Unequal’s president, Rob Vito. “Shotguns are useless against a product like this.”

According to the Associated Press, the shields are ineffective against the assault rifles that were used at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School

“I never thought I’d need this,” one student told WTFX.

There have been 23 school shootings in 2018 alone.
