Swaziland Bans 'Rape-Provoking' Outfits

Swaziland police have banned women from wearing miniskirts, crop tops and low-slung jeans: Outfits apparently “encourage rape,” according to police in the small, conservative monarchy, which resurrected a law from 1889 to prevent women from wearing clothes that expose their bodies.

The Daily Mail reports that officials are responding to a march last month by young women — some wearing miniskirts — who were seeking equal rights and safety.

Police spokesperson Wendy Hleta warned: ‘They will be arrested. ‘The act of the rapist is made easy, because it would be easy to remove the half-cloth worn by the women. ‘We do not encourage that women should be harmed, but at the same time people should note acceptable conduct of behavior,’ she said.
