Justice Department To Probe Minneapolis Policing Practices

Wednesday, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the Justice Department will be launching an investigation into the Minneapolis Police Department to determine whether the department engages in "pattern and practice" of use of excessive force against protesters and illegal conduct, according to the Star Tribune.

"Congress gave the department the authority to conduct civil pattern and practice investigations, which look beyond individual incidents to assess systemic failures," said Garland. "Those investigations allow the department to determine whether a police department has a pattern or practice of unconstitutional or unlawful policing."

SZA Discusses Muslim Roots, Fear Of Wearing Hijab After 9/11

In a Snapchat video with Muslim Girl, SZA revealed that she stopped wearing a hijab after the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center because she feared Islamophobia.

“I stopped covering after 9/11 because I was so scared,” she said. “This was like elementary school, middle school. I regret so much—like being afraid or caring what people said about me," the singer, who grew up in a predominately white New Jersey suburb explained. When she decided to start covering again in high school, she was also attacked. Members of the Islamic community felt that she was not devout enough while those who were not in the community told her that she was oppressed. “I couldn’t believe Islamophobia randomly deciding I’m oppressed because I’m covering my hair.”
