During her very emotional speech Monday, Henson praised her grandmother for showing her the true definitions of love and family.
“What I love about my grandmother is her unconditional love.
She taught the family how to love, and she keeps us very close. All my cousins
and I are really, really close. But of course, she prayed. She did a lot of
praying and she continues to pray for me, and like I said in my speech, her
prayers definitely brought me here. So, my grandmother’s my everything.”
The What Men Want
actress also discussed impacting society with her art.
“I’m telling you, everything I do is for the positive forward movement of humanity. That’s how powerful art is, I don’t take anything for granted. Every role that I take on is just as special as the last one. Because I know that if I put my all into it, and some way this role transformed me, then I know the audience will be transformed….Thank you so much…God is very real.”

The director of Henson’s breakout film, Baby Boy, John Singleton, was in attendance to support her great accomplishment, as were good friend Mary J. Blige and others. Check out photos and video from the ceremony below.
