Texas Cop Who Slammed Teen Cleared of All Charges

The former suburban Dallas police officer seen on video slamming a Black teenager to the ground at a pool party will not face charges. The New York Daily News reports that a grand jury declined to indict McKinney, Texas, police Cpl. Eric Casebolt on Thursday. Casebolt resigned days after his chief called his actions “indefensible” and said he had been “out of control” on June 5, 2015.

Residents living in the Craig Ranch area reported that a group of mostly Black teens were behaving in an unruly fashion. Neighbors also told police the teens were trespassing at a private community pool. The students were actually found to be attending an end of the school year party. Video of the incident shows Casebolt slamming a 15-year-old Black female attendee to the ground as he detains her.

Despite the aggressiveness displayed in the video, a Collin County grand jury opted not to indict Casebolt after reviewing evidence from a Texas Rangers investigation into the incident.

"The McKinney Police Department’s mission is to make the city a safe place to live, work and visit for everyone,” the department said in a statement issued on its website. “In light of this, we seek to work in partnership with all who live and work in this great city."

The McKinney Police Department has planned a community forum for Monday night.
