Devonte Cafferkey, 13, Sammy Farah, 14, and Shawn Young, 12, will soon be recognized for the bravery and quick thinking that led them to save a suicidal man from taking his own life.
Mirror UK reports the three kids were walking home from school when they saw a man with a rope tied around his neck sitting on an overpass last September.
The boys reportedly tried to talk to the mentally disturbed man, but he attempted to jump anyway. Devante and Sammy then grabbed the man, refusing to let him fall, while Shawn called for help.
Joanne Stammers heard the cries and took over for the boys, holding the man “for what feels like forever” until authorities arrived. Another man, James Higlett, reportedly also did his part in saving the man’s life.
All five of them will be honored by the Royal Humane Society, a charity that promotes lifesaving intervention. See the boys talk about the experience below.
